Panduan Pemasangan Gorden Outside Mount: What to Know Before You Choose

Outside mount means a curtain track, rod or blind is installed outside the window recess, usually on the wall or ceiling around the opening. It can provide broader coverage, work around a shallow recess and make a window appear taller when the hardware is positioned thoughtfully.

Short answer: consider outside mounting when the recess is too shallow, handles project into the mounting area, or you need the treatment to extend beyond the frame. Measure the intended coverage area and check the wall, brackets, clearance and curtain stack before ordering.

When Outside Mount Makes Sense

  • Shallow recess: there may not be enough depth for an inside-mounted blind.
  • Light-gap management: extending beyond the frame can reduce side light, but does not guarantee blackout.
  • Visual height: a higher track can create a taller vertical line.
  • Obstructions: outside mounting may clear handles or frame projections.
  • Wide openings: the treatment can cover the full opening, not only the glass.

Measure the Intended Coverage

Measure the outer frame and decide how far the treatment should extend on each side. The extension depends on the fabric stack, wall space, privacy needs and adjacent fittings. For curtains, leave enough space for panels to stack back without covering too much glass. For roller blinds, remember that fabric width may differ from the overall bracket width depending on the system.

Set the Height and Finished Drop

For curtains, decide whether the track will sit above the frame or near the ceiling. Confirm the finished drop, floor clearance, rings or heading, and track position before calculating fabric length. For blinds, allow room for the headrail or cassette and ensure it will not conflict with a curtain track if the window is layered.

Check the Mounting Surface

Plasterboard, masonry, concrete and timber require different fixing approaches. Heavy curtains and wide spans place substantial loads on brackets. The installer should assess the substrate, fixing method and bracket spacing rather than choosing anchors by appearance alone.

Outside Mount and Light Control

Broader coverage can reduce side gaps, but light may still enter above, below or around the edges. If strong room-darkening is important, specify fabric opacity, lining, overlap, track position and finished dimensions together. A fabric labelled blackout does not by itself guarantee a completely dark room.

Layering With Blinds

When combining a blind with curtains, plan both systems together. Check the blind cassette, handles, curtain folds, stack-back and door movement. A simple elevation sketch can help prevent hardware collisions and preserve access to sliding doors.

Common Mistakes

  • Measuring only the glass when broader coverage is needed.
  • Placing brackets where they conflict with handles or switches.
  • Ignoring the finished curtain weight.
  • Assuming outside mount guarantees blackout.
  • Forgetting the space occupied by open curtain panels.
  • Using unsuitable fixings for the wall or ceiling.

Installation Checklist

  1. Confirm wall or ceiling mounting.
  2. Measure the opening and side extensions.
  3. Check handles, trim and adjacent fittings.
  4. Confirm finished height and floor clearance.
  5. Identify the mounting substrate.
  6. Verify bracket spacing and load capacity.
  7. Review likely light gaps.
  8. Test opening and closing after installation.

Bali Property Considerations

Large glazing, sliding doors and high ceilings are common in Bali properties. Outside mounting can provide useful coverage, but the layout must preserve circulation, views and door access. Consider humidity, cleaning and safe access to high hardware for maintenance.
