A clear, step-by-step guide to measuring for a bed canopy — with realistic room visuals, simple 2D diagrams, and the details to check before you order.
Designed for real rooms, beds and installation constraints.

BEFORE YOU TAKE OUT THE TAPE
The right fit starts with the right reference points.
Bed canopys come in different styles and mounting arrangements. Start by identifying what the net will cover, where it will attach, and how much clearance is available. The diagrams below are a measurement guide; always confirm final dimensions against the exact product and installation method.
01 — MEASURE THE FOOTPRINT
Width and length, in 2D.
Measure the outer footprint that needs to sit beneath or inside the net. Use the same unit for every measurement and write it down immediately.

01 / TOP VIEW
Measure the outer footprint.
Start with the widest outside edges of the bed frame or the footprint the net must cover. Do not measure only the mattress if the frame extends beyond it.
Measure across the bed from left to right for width (W).
Measure from the head end to the foot end for length (L).
Repeat both measurements near each end; note the largest reading and any unevenness.
Record width (W)________Record length (L)________
02 / SIDE VIEW
Confirm height and clearance.
Measure to the actual intended support or fixing point. Ceiling height alone may not tell you where the net frame or hanging point will sit.
Measure vertically from the floor to the planned support point for height (H).
Check the distance between the top of the bed and the net support for usable clearance.
Note ceiling slopes, beams, fans, lights or other obstructions before confirming the installation.

03 / FRONT ELEVATION
Check the clear opening from the front.
This view helps confirm the available span between the mounting points and whether the net can hang without meeting nearby furniture, a headboard or wall features.
Measure the usable width between the intended support points.
Record the vertical reach from the reference surface to the mounting point.
Photograph the front and both sides so the dimensions can be checked against the room.
Clear width________Support height________
Important: These are reference diagrams, not product-specific cutting dimensions. The required height, overlap, allowance and mounting points depend on the net style and hardware.
02 — VISUALISE THE FIT
See how the net relates to the room.
Before finalising measurements, look at the full installation context: the bed footprint, ceiling height, support points, bedside furniture, and any beams or sloping surfaces that may affect the fit.
Check the bed and frame at their widest outer points.
Measure the intended support height, not an assumed ceiling height.
Note fans, lights, beams, headboards and nearby furniture.
Photograph each side and the ceiling / mounting area.
General guidance to help you prepare before choosing a bed canopy.
Should I measure the mattress or the bed frame?
Measure the part the bed canopy needs to cover. For a freestanding or canopy net, record the outer dimensions of the bed or frame and check the net supplier’s fitting instructions before ordering.
How much extra space should I allow?
Do not add an arbitrary allowance unless the specific net design requires it. Record the actual width, length and height, then confirm the required clearance and mounting method with the supplier.
What if the ceiling or bed is not perfectly square?
Measure width and length at more than one point, and record the smallest and largest readings. Share any uneven walls, sloping ceilings, posts or obstructions with the supplier.
Can Almeers Living help check my measurements?
Yes. Send your measurements, a few photos and a simple sketch through WhatsApp so the team can help review the details and discuss suitable options.
NEED A SECOND PAIR OF EYES?
Let’s check the details together.
Share your measurements, a photo of the bed and the intended mounting area. We’ll help you identify what needs to be confirmed before you proceed.
